Mental Health and Nutrition

“You are what you eat”

We have all heard this saying many times. Have you ever stopped to consider what it really means?

I’ve been on a professional and personal journey over the past year or so to learn as much as I can about nutrition and our overall sense of well being. I became curious about the number of women in my office with unexplained physical complaints including fatigue and just ‘not feeling quite right.’ There seemed to be a link between the issues that women were seeking counseling for and some common but vague physical complaints. As I began to do research to help my clients, I ended up helping myself. To read more about my personal journey-click here.

One of the things that makes me different from many counselors is that I focus on the connection between nutrition and mental health. If you choose to work with me, we will be discussing many things in the physical realm including nutrition, activity, sleep and more. I believe that there are some foundational changes that often need to be made in order for counseling to be most effective and efficient. I believe that we are all made up of three components-Mind-Body-Spirit and I take a holistic approach in my work to address all three areas. If you are not comfortable with this physical/body aspect, then I am probably not the best counselor for you.

I have been studying the effects of nutrition on our overall physical health and wellness and our mental health. I have also been learning about a variety of alternative health care options. I look forward to working with you to develop a customized plan for taking charge of your own health and well being. Whether your goals include weight loss, improving your mood, increasing your energy, just feeling better, or weight gain; we can work together to develop a customized plan to help you achieve your goals.
